What to expect, plainly

This page is about a pet who has died, so it is worth being exact about what arrives.

A portrait, not a photograph

What comes back is an interpretation of your photo — painted light, a setting, a frame. It is meant to look like a portrait somebody made of them, not like the snapshot you started with.

The face stays theirs

The markings, the ears, the eyes and the shape of the muzzle are read from your photo. If the likeness is wrong, the portrait has failed and we would rather you told us.

An old photo is fine

Photos from years ago, taken on an old phone, slightly soft — these usually still work. A clear view of the face matters far more than the resolution.

No account, no list

There is nothing to sign up for and no email asked of you to see the portraits. Nothing arrives in your inbox later.

You will get three, not one

Every upload comes back in the same three Styles: Royal, Superhero and Manga. On a day like today the Royal one is usually the portrait people keep — but you get all three, and you are not asked to choose beforehand.

How it works

One photo. About 30 seconds. Three portraits.

  1. Choose the photo

The one you keep coming back to. A clear view of the face, facing the camera if you have it. JPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC, any size.

  2. Add it above

There is no form and nothing to write. Three empty frames fill in one at a time as each portrait is finished.

  3. Keep them

The three portraits are free to download and keep. Full-size files with no watermark are €0.99 for all three, sent to you by email.

Frequently asked questions

Old photos, likeness, cost, and what happens if it is wrong.

Can I use a photo of a pet who has died?

Yes — that is what most people who find this page are doing. Any photo you have works, however old. You do not need a recent one, a good camera, or more than one.

My only photo is old and a bit blurry. Is it good enough?

Usually, yes. A clear view of the face matters much more than sharpness or resolution. Soft, slightly grainy phone photos from years ago come back well. Photos where your pet is tiny in the frame, or turned away, are the ones that struggle.

Will it actually look like them?

That is the whole point, and it is read from the photo you give — the markings, the ears, the eyes. It will not be perfect every time. If the likeness is wrong, do not pay for it; and if you already have, the €0.99 is refunded in full with no questions.

How much does it cost?

Seeing the three portraits costs nothing. They are previews and carry a small Petary watermark. Full-size files without the watermark are €0.99 for all three — one payment, nothing recurring, nothing to cancel.

Do I have to make an account or give my email?

No. There is no account and no email step to see the portraits. An email address is only needed if you buy the full-size files, because that is where they are sent.

Does this work for a cat?

Yes — cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and horses. The portrait is built from whatever animal is in the photo.

Can I make one for a friend who has lost their pet?

Yes, and it is a kind thing to do. Use a photo they have shared, and send them the files rather than a link, so they are not asked to do anything on a day when they will not want to.

What happens to my photo?

It is used to make your three portraits and nothing else. It is not sold, not published, and not used to advertise Petary.
